About the Department

The Department of Mathematics is one of the pivotal departments of Physical Science in Govt. College Bilaspur. It came into existence in the fraternity of the college in 1952. Since then, it has offered a wide range of programs for undergraduate (B.A. / B.Sc.) and postgraduate (M.A. / M.Sc.) courses in Mathematics.

The department implemented the CBCS system for B.A./B.Sc. in 2013 and introduced the credit-based system for postgraduate students starting from 2022. Over the years, the department has taken strenuous efforts in nurturing and empowering students to achieve their academic goals.

The department currently comprises five faculty members, with specializations in both Applied and Pure Mathematics.

Vision

The Mathematics Department’s vision is to graduate and post-graduate distinguished mathematicians equipped with strong knowledge and diverse skills. We aim to provide a unique learning experience that enables students to realize their potential and mold their overall personality.

Mission

The Mathematics Department provides rigorous preparation for careers requiring expertise in mathematics. We aim to build mental discipline and encourage logical reasoning and rigor. We are committed to demonstrating science as both a human endeavor and a way to understand the natural world.

Our faculty members see themselves as resources for the university, region, state, nation, and the world.

Objectives

  • To guide and prepare students to explore ample career opportunities after graduation and post-graduation.
  • To use library and internet resources effectively to research mathematical topics.
  • To develop distinct modes of thinking, including optimization, logical analysis, inference from data, and symbolic reasoning.
  • To help students recognize and appreciate the connections between mathematical theory and practical applications.
