NCC Army Wing (Girls)

  1. Home
  2. NCC Army Wing (Girls)

The 1 HP Girls Battalion NCC is a unit of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) — the youth wing of India’s armed forces that operates under the Ministry of Defence. It is specifically a girls’ Army-wing unit based in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, focused on training young women students in military, leadership, and service skills.

The battalion recruits cadets from schools and colleges across Himachal Pradesh. It falls under the Senior Division/Senior Wing of the NCC, where participants typically are college students aged roughly 18–26.

Objectives and Training

The core goals of the unit are aligned with NCC’s wider mission to:

  • Develop leadership, discipline, and character among youth.
  • Instill patriotism and a spirit of service to nation.
  • Provide basic military training and exposure to drills, camps, and adventure activities.

Training includes physical exercises, drill parades, classes on military subjects, community service, and teamwork. Regular parades and classes help cadets build confidence and mental resilience.

Annual Camps and Activities

The battalion organizes Annual Training Camps (ATCs) that bring together cadets for intensive training and competitions:

  • Camps sometimes bring together hundreds of girl cadets from different regions of Himachal Pradesh for physical, cultural, and leadership activities.
  • Activities include morning physical training (PT), drill sessions, cultural programs, sports, and teamwork exercises.
  • Cadets also participate in external events like plantation drives and social service initiatives that foster environmental awareness and community engagement.

Additionally, cadets celebrate national occasions (such as Independence Day) and take part in extracurricular NCC programs like shooting camps, yoga days, and trekking — further boosting their physical fitness and spirit of camaraderie.

Benefits of Joining

Cadets in the NCC can earn valuable qualifications such as ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates, which are beneficial for:

  • Preferred entry or exemption advantages in defence services recruitment exams.
  • Leadership and personality development opportunities.
  • Scholarships and academic recognition in some institutes.
