About the Institution
Since its establishment in 1952, Government College Bilaspur has been upholding its motto “TAMSO MAA JYOTIRGMYA” to contribute to society through the pursuit of education and thus, proudly maintaining its reputation as one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges of Himachal Pradesh.
Nestled below the magnificent Bandla hills on the arresting bank of the famous Govind Sagar Lake, the college campus provides ideal surroundings for the seekers of knowledge. Past 70 years have witnessed the dedication and firmness with which the college has established a glorious record of academic excellence and has made remarkable achievements in various fields such as sports, cultural, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
The college is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and has been accredited with grade B (3rd cycle) by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC). The institution offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational streams (B.Voc). Under the self-financing programmes, the college is running Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA), B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management (BTTM), harnessing professional skills and opening new vistas of opportunities in the globalized world.
PG programmes in English, Economics, Commerce and of late in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have further added to the academic excellence of the institution. In addition, the institution is also providing distant education through IGNOU study centre.
The college provides quality education through well-equipped and spacious labs in various departments which integrate classroom teaching with laboratory experience. Under Utkrisht Mahavidyalaya Yojna (UMY), five smart classrooms, one language lab were established and automation of college library was successfully completed.
Moreover, the college library is equipped with INFLIBNET facility and maintains a convenient access to print and electronic resources. Regular activities related to Sports, NCC, NSS and Rovers & Rangers enhance the vibrancy of the institution.
Eco Club, Road Safety Club, Gender Equity Cell, Literary Club, Prehari Club and Red Ribbon Club etc. are actively shaping the young minds for their holistic development. Additionally, Energy Club, Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat Club, different cultural and subject related societies observe the days of national importance and organize various events to educate students about cultural and national heritage.
Hostel facilities for students and residential quarters for its teaching and non-teaching members are also available in the college. The college hosts a number of sensitization programmes, inter-college sports and cultural events to provide various opportunities to students for honing their talent and skills in different fields.
